This is a popular choice, and for good reason. The stories are often quite fun. Each one comes with a short vocabulary list and some comprehension questions.
Good for: the stories are written in lively, natural language and they don't feel stiff or textbook-like.
Keep in mind: even though it's labeled "for beginners," the texts are, on average, closer to an A2 level. If you're taking your very first steps in Russian, some stories might feel harder than expected. Also, the exercises are fairly light.

These are my own graded readers. I made this because I kept seeing the same problem with my students and podcast listeners: they wanted to read AND listen, on everyday topics they actually care about, like introducing yourself, talking about your day, your home, food, clothes, a trip you took.
So Prosto. Истории A1 has 56 short texts on 8 everyday topics, each one with audio and small exercises. There's also a "words and phrases" section after every chapter, so you're not just reading but you're actually reviewing and practicing the vocabulary that mattered most. A2 book continues from there, with 63 texts on 9 topics.
Good for: learners who want reading and listening together, on practical, real-life topics, with built-in vocabulary practice.
Keep in mind: it's not a big classic story with one plot. You will find there short, everyday texts, which some learners love and others prefer to mix with longer fiction.
